Knock man scoops $29,883 in world poker event
A KNOCK-MAN made his mark on the World Series of Poker in Los Vegas in recent days, scooping an impressive $29,883 in prize money. Nicky Cunnane had won his ticket at a poker competition in the Westwood in Galway, with the Knock-man’s package also including his flights, accommodation and some spending money. Nicky endured almost a 12-hour poker marathon before securing his ticket. However, after now scooping almost $30,000 in the event, it’s clear that the 12hours were definitely worth his while!
The World Series of Poker Main Event attracted 6,358 entries from all across the world, with a total Prize Money fund of $59,784,954. At the start of Day Three, there were still 12 Irish players in contention, with a total of 808 players still in the game.
On Thursday night, Nicky got knocked out of the event in 452nd position and won $29,883. When the Knock man rose from the table, there were still five Irish players battling it out for prize money, with Mullingar’s Slyvester Geoghan eventually finishing as the top Irish player in 122nd place and taking home $58,570.
Nicky, who is a regular Poker Player in Hanley’s Bar in Claremorris and is currently lying in 3rd position in the Hanley’s Summer Poker League, was joined in Los Vegas by fellow-Claremorris players Danny McHugh and Enda McGearty. Enda had also won his ticket to the event, saving himself the $10,000 entry fee. However, Danny had decided to pay in to the major com-Nevertheless, Danny still had a few tricks up his sleeve and, after paying out the cash, the popular Claremorris man and Garrymore footballer won $10,000 in a game on the eve of Main Event, covering the price of his entry.
Unfortunately, both Danny and Enda got knocked out near the end of day one, but stayed to watch Nicky continue through the ranks.
Today (Tuesday), there are just 10 players left in the game, with the top player due to land $8,250,000 in winnings.
